Promise Rings For Couples history and tradition: a promise to love

The Unique Couple Jewelry has a rich history and tradition that dates to several centuries.

Since ancient times the ring has been an expression of love.

It is believed that the tradition of giving rings to a woman's fiancée is a tradition that dates back to the Egyptians and was given to the woman as a token of trust and respect as a way to show that she was considered an important person to whom one could count and whom one could marry and create an entire family.

The Romans gave two rings to the bride-to be, one in gold to wear in public and the other made of iron for wear at home. Also in Roman times, the concept of wearing the rings on the ring finger of the left hand grew, given that it was once believed that a direct vein to the heart, also known as Vena Amoris, originated here.

Over time the look of the engagement ring has experienced significant changes, moving closer and closer to the type of ring we're used to today.

In 1477, Archduke Maximilian gave his wife Mary of Burgundy an ring with a diamond in the middle. It was at this time that diamonds appear on the scene for the first time. This is a custom that has endured over the years and has evolved into an ongoing part of the wedding process.

De Beers, a company now famous for its diamond engagement rings launched a campaign in the year 1974 that reaffirmed the tradition of giving diamonds as gifts. This was a highly popular campaign, made famous and immortal by the timeless slogan: "A diamond is forever". He was able to revive the American diamond industry: in 1939, only 10 percent rings included diamonds. In 1990, that number rose to 80 percent.

The most well-known engagement rings of today are the solitaire ring Riviera ring that has small diamonds or the tri-ring comprised of three diamonds and represents "yesterday tomorrow, today and today".

There are many precious stones that can be set into an engagement ring. Each stone is unique and has its own meaning.

The diamond is a symbol for the strength of a relationship. It is a symbol of love, virtue and a passion for life. The Ruby is a symbol of passion and ardent love. Then there's the Sapphire, which is an emblem of loyalty, and the Emerald symbolizes hope. We close the list by recollecting Aquamarine which indicates the hope of a long-lasting happy marriage, Beryl, which suggests the strength of the love bond and Opal, which represents sincere love.
